Who is People’s Weather?
The United States considers timely and accurate weather information to be a public service, especially when it comes to the number of severe weather events that may occur across communities. While programs like the National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration provide free weather data, they have one significant drawback, this critical and often life-saving information is only delivered in English.
Per the U.S. Census Bureau, approximately 20% of the population speaks a language other than English, this count often does not include refugee communities, student populations, and recent immigrants. This means that approximately 1 in 5 people in the US are not receiving accurate and timely information about the weather.
The People’s Weather aims to remedy this issue by providing a mobile application service that provides text notifications to individuals in their preferred language.
